Happy Indian and Pakistan Independence Day.

Happy Indian and Pakistan Independence Day.

"Joint Statement on the Independence Days of India and Pakistan: A Call for Peace, Justice, and Dialogue"

Joint Statement on the Occasion of India and Pakistan Independence Days

By Dr. Seyed Firdawoosbee Hanifdeen

President, Global United for Peace and Justice

As the nations of India and Pakistan commemorate their respective Independence Days on August 14 and August 15, we at Global United for Peace and Justice extend our deepest respect to the people of both countries.

🇮🇳 India – August 15, 1947

India’s independence marked the triumph of nonviolent resistance and democratic aspiration. It gave birth to a nation committed to unity in diversity and inspired movements for freedom across the world.

🇵🇰 Pakistan – August 14, 1947

Pakistan’s creation symbolized the pursuit of identity, dignity, and self-determination. Led by Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah, the people of Pakistan began their journey as an independent Muslim nation.

🕊️ The Shared Story: From Partition to Possibility

Though born in separation, India and Pakistan share centuries of cultural, spiritual, and social heritage. But the Partition of 1947, while granting freedom, also brought immense pain — displacing millions and leaving wounds that have yet to fully heal.

Today, we must recognize that our shared past can either divide us or unite us — the choice is ours.

⚖️ Kashmir: A Call for a Just and Peaceful Resolution

One of the deepest and most enduring points of tension between India and Pakistan is the Kashmir conflict.

For decades, the people of Jammu & Kashmir have lived amid uncertainty, militarization, political strife, and violence. The suffering — civilian, emotional, and generational — cannot be ignored by any advocate of peace and justice.

We call upon both India and Pakistan to:

Return to the table of dialogue, grounded in mutual respect and international norms.

Listen to the voices and aspirations of the people of Kashmir — who deserve peace, dignity, and self-agency.

Pursue a non-violent, diplomatic solution that reflects the principles of human rights, justice, and reconciliation.

A peaceful and dignified resolution of the Kashmir issue is not a political victory for either side, but a moral victory for humanity.

🤝 A New Era of Engagement

As President of Global United for Peace and Justice, I urge both nations to:

Replace decades of hostility with a vision for peaceful coexistence

Open doors for cultural exchange, educational partnerships, and trade

Reject extremism, media-fueled hatred, and zero-sum politics

Let us choose to see not adversaries across the border, but neighbors, partners, and fellow human beings.

🌍 Let August Be a Turning Point

On these sacred anniversaries of independence, let us not only celebrate freedom from colonial rule — but commit to freeing ourselves from cycles of hatred, mistrust, and unresolved conflict.

Let Kashmir, long a land of breathtaking beauty and resilient people, become a symbol not of division, but of peace achieved through courageous dialogue and shared humanity.

“Peace is not passive. It demands vision, sacrifice, and the will to heal.”

May this Independence Day inspire a new journey — from Partition to Partnership, from conflict to compassion, from silence to solution.
